Keep Your Heating Oil Tank Full In Summer

Protect Your Heating Oil Tank

oil delivery connecticut

With Fourth of July weekend coming up soon, your heating oil supply is probably way down on your priority list, behind grocery shopping for the cookout, buying sunscreen, etc.

But take a few minutes today to get a heating oil delivery from Rural Fuels, and you’ll be rewarded!

Why Fill My Heating Oil Tank Now?

There are two good reasons to keep your tank at least half-full during the warmer months.

The first is condensation forming in the empty space in your heating oil tank. Warmer temperatures in this time of year allow condensation to accumulate rapidly on the inside of heating oil tanks. If your heating oil tank is outdoors and in an unshaded area, it is vulnerable to condensation.

Condensation occurs when water forms on the bare walls of your heating oil tank. Water is denser than heating oil. The condensation will eventually drip down and settle at the bottom of the tank, where it creates a perfect environment for bacteria and other microorganisms to grow. Tank sediment can cause a variety of problems.

Sludge can enter the fuel line and cause your heating system to shut down. Corrosion of your heating oil tank from the inside out can also be caused by sediment. The corrosion can contribute to tank failure, which will lead to a costly clean-up bill as well as replacing your heating oil tank.
