Summer Vacation for your equipment

Did you know your home’s heating and cooling equipment feels the impact of summer just like we do? Here are some tips from our Equipment Experts to keep your home running even when in vacation mode.

Air Conditioners

If your A/C is running, make sure you add a reminder to change your air filter every 60-90 days. When regularly replaced, HEPA air filters can remove up to 99.97% of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, pet dander, and other airborne particles inside your home. Clogged filters not only reduce your indoor air quality but also make your A/C system work harder by trying to push air through layers of debris.

Oil Tank

Before you jump into summer, don’t forget to fill your heating oil tank! It might sound strange, but a full oil tank protects it and improves the tank’s life expectancy. Warm or fluctuating temperatures combined with a partially filled oil tank can lead to condensation inside the tank. Because water is heavier than oil, it creates bacteria and debris that settle at the bottom of your tank, which can lead to clogs, corrosion, and decreased efficiency. Protect your tank until heating season with a delivery of our Bioheat Heating Oil.

Hot Water Heater

Your water heater gets more use than you might realize – just think about the hot water you use to clean your dishes, your clothes, and yourself. Summer is the perfect time to do a visual inspection of your hot water heater. Look for any leaks around the tank and its connections, check for dampness, verify and adjust your temperature – you can even go down a couple of degrees in summer to conserve energy. If anything seems off, give us a call to schedule one of our technicians to inspect your water heater and provide maintenance.

Ductless Heat Pump

Ductless Heat Pumps always seem to be trending on Google, but do you know how they work? Thanks to their dual functionality, ductless heat pumps can be used to both heat and cool a home. In the summertime, a heat pump functions the same way as an air conditioner, taking heat from inside the house and depositing it outside, leaving the room cool. When it’s colder outside, the system is reversed to be used for heat.

The Four Most Common Uses for Ductless Heat Pumps:

  1. As a supplement to a central A/C or heating system for spaces that were added onto a house or located at the furthest end of the existing ductwork.

  2. For rooms that need additional heating and cooling, such as a sunroom, or for a space that requires independent temperature control, such as a home office.

  3. As a cost-efficient alternative for an additional living space, such as bonus rooms, studios, cottages, garages, finished attics, basements, etc.

  4. For homes/spaces that cannot accommodate conventional ductwork. Older homes and antique homes typically do not have space to install ductwork.
